Sea View or Pool View in Phuket: Is Deluxe Ocean View Worth the Extra Cost
Deluxe Pool View and Deluxe Ocean View at Mida Grande Resort on Surin: how much more the sea view costs by season, and when the extra cost is worth it.

The sea-view surcharge on a 40 m² apartment at Mida Grande Resort on Surin runs from 200 to 1,100 THB a night (7,290 − 6,190 THB at the seasonal peak), or 4,000 to 19,500 THB a month, depending on the season — smallest in low season, largest at the New Year peak.
How much more does a sea view cost by season
Deluxe Pool View 40 m² and Deluxe Ocean View 40 m² are the same layout and the same area — the only difference is the view and the building. Nightly, the sea-view surcharge looks like this:
| Season | Pool View | Ocean View | Surcharge |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24 Dec – 10 Jan | 6,190 THB | 7,290 THB | 7,290 − 6,190 = 1,100 THB |
| 10–31 Jan | 4,690 THB | 5,490 THB | 5,490 − 4,690 = 800 THB |
| 1 Feb – 10 Mar | 4,290 THB | 4,990 THB | 4,990 − 4,290 = 700 THB |
| 20 Mar – 19 Apr | 2,390 THB | 2,790 THB | 2,790 − 2,390 = 400 THB |
| 20 May – 19 Sep (low season) | 990 THB | 1,190 THB | 1,190 − 990 = 200 THB |
| 20 Nov – 24 Dec | 2,190 THB | 2,590 THB | 2,590 − 2,190 = 400 THB |
For stays of 30+ nights the monthly rate kicks in, and the gap grows in absolute terms but stays proportional: in low season Pool View runs 22,500 THB against Ocean View’s 26,500 THB — a 26,500 − 22,500 = 4,000 THB surcharge; at the New Year peak it’s 110,500 THB against 130,000 THB — a 130,000 − 110,500 = 19,500 THB surcharge. For how prices move through the year overall, see Phuket high season by month: when it’s more expensive and when to book.
On a long-term contract the sea-view surcharge is fixed regardless of the season you move in: 43,000 − 37,000 = 6,000 THB a month on a 1-year contract, 57,500 − 49,000 = 8,500 THB on the winter contract (1 Nov – 30 Apr), and 22,500 − 19,000 = 3,500 THB on the summer contract (1 May – 31 Oct). What else differs between Pool View and Ocean View besides the view
Beyond price, the two categories sit in different parts of the complex. Deluxe Pool View 40 m² is on floor 1, building 7, facing the pool. Deluxe Ocean View 40 m² sits on floors 5–7, buildings 6 and 7, facing the Andaman Sea. The floor difference matters beyond the view too: lower floors mean a quicker walk to the pool and parking, higher floors mean less street noise.
There’s also a larger sea-view option — Deluxe Ocean View 45 m², floors 7–8, buildings 5 and 6. It costs 10% more than the standard 40 m² Ocean View — that premium is for the extra 5 m² of space, not for a better view.
Need two bedrooms or a panoramic view
If you’re looking for a group or family with kids, the comparison shifts from pool vs. sea view to Family 2 Bedroom Ocean View vs. Grande Luxury 2 Bedroom Ocean View — priced the same on the list but laid out differently and sleeping different numbers of guests. See 2-bedroom ocean view apartments in Phuket: Family or Grande Luxury.
Is the sea view worth paying for
In low season, a 200 THB-a-night surcharge (4,000 THB a month) is rarely a reason to skip Ocean View if the view matters to you. In high season and especially at New Year the gap widens to 700–1,100 THB a night, and the decision becomes more about budget than view — the layout, area and kitchen setup are identical in both categories; only the view and floor differ.
