Apartments for Two in Phuket: How Much Space Is Enough

Two adults need about 40 m² in the Mida Grande Resort complex on Surin — that’s the Deluxe Pool View and Deluxe Ocean View categories: one bedroom with a King Size bed, a kitchen, a bathroom and a balcony. Two-bedroom apartments (54 and 69 m²) are worth taking only if you need a separate room for an office or guests — and they cost noticeably more.
What 40 m² includes
Deluxe Pool View 40 m² and Deluxe Ocean View 40 m² share the same layout for 3 guests: a King Size bed, a sofa bed and a crib (useful if you are not travelling as just a couple but with a child or a third adult). The apartments come with a fully equipped kitchen, a washing machine, 300 Mbit/s dedicated internet and TV with channels from over 100 countries. For a couple without kids, the sofa bed stays free — useful for luggage or a desk.
The only difference between the two 40 m² categories is the view and the building: Pool View looks onto the pool from the 1st floor of building 7, Ocean View looks onto the sea from floors 5–7 of buildings 6 and 7. Is the extra 5 m² worth it
There is a larger version of the same layout — Deluxe Ocean View 45 m². Same King Size bed and sofa bed, but 5 m² more room. The surcharge is a fixed 10% over the Ocean View 40 m² price in any season. In low season that works out to 1,190 × 1.1 ≈ 1,310 THB per night instead of 1,190 THB, and 26,500 × 1.1 = 29,150 THB per month instead of 26,500 THB. For a couple, the difference is worth it if what matters is not just the bedroom but extra space in the living room and kitchen.
When you actually need two bedrooms
Family 2 Bedroom Ocean View 54 m² and Grande Luxury 2 Bedroom Ocean View 69 m² are built for 5 and 4 guests respectively — these are apartments for a family or a group, not a couple. For two people the second bedroom almost always sits empty, and the price is noticeably higher: in low season, a month in Family 2 Bedroom 54 m² starts at 42,500 THB against 26,500 THB for Ocean View 40 m². The one real reason to take a two-bedroom apartment as a couple is the panoramic view from Grande Luxury 69 m² on the 7th floor, or a separate room for remote work during a long stay. For a short trip or a regular winter stay for two, 40 or 45 m² is more than enough.
