Utility bills for a long-term rental in Phuket: how much and how they are calculated

How utility bills are calculated for a month-or-longer apartment rental in Phuket: electricity and water rates, the approximate monthly total, and how this differs from a short stay — based on Phuket Real 24 terms.

For an apartment rental in Phuket of a month or longer, utility bills — electricity and water — are metered and billed separately from the rental rate. With Phuket Real 24 the electricity rate is 6.5 THB per kWh and water is 60 THB per m³, with a daily reference total of around 80 THB for one-bedroom apartments and 120 THB for two-bedroom apartments.

What counts as a utility bill

Utilities are electricity and water read from meters, nothing else. Cleaning, internet, and access to the complex infrastructure (pools, gyms, parking) are not part of this amount: cleaning is a separate on-request service, and internet plus infrastructure access are already included in the stay.

Electricity and water rates

The rates are fixed and do not change by season:

Utility Rate
Electricity 6.5 THB per kWh
Water 60 THB per m³

Electricity is the main cost driver, not water: Phuket is hot year-round, and the air conditioner runs noticeably more than in a temperate climate. That makes the final bill largely dependent on how often and how many hours a day the AC is on.

How much it comes to per month

Our reference is around 80 THB a day for one-bedroom apartments and 120 THB for two-bedroom apartments. For a stay of 30 days or more, that works out to an approximate monthly figure: 80 × 30 = 2,400 THB for one bedroom and 120 × 30 = 3,600 THB for two bedrooms. This is a reference, not a fixed fee — the actual amount is billed on actual consumption, lower with economical AC use and higher if it runs at full power constantly.

How this differs from a short stay

On a short booking — nightly, up to a month — utilities are usually already built into the rate and not billed separately. For a stay of 30 days or longer, and under a fixed seasonal or yearly contract, electricity and water are metered and billed apart from the rent. What else changes when moving from a short booking to a long one is covered in wintering in Phuket: how to choose apartments for a month or longer, and what else makes up the monthly rate besides utilities is in renting a place in Phuket for a month: what is included in the price.

Terms for fixed yearly or seasonal contracts, where utilities are also billed separately from the rate, are covered in long-term apartment rental in Phuket.

How to pay utility bills

Utilities are paid the same way as rent: cash in baht, transfer to a Thai card, rubles to a Russian card, tenge to a Kazakhstan card, cash EUR/USD, or USDT. A full breakdown of payment methods is in how to pay for a rental in Phuket: baht, rubles, tenge, USDT.

How to cut utility costs

Since electricity driven by the AC is the main cost, the difference in the bill usually comes down to habits: running the AC all day versus only while sleeping, keeping windows and doors closed while it is on, and using a fan during the cooler morning and evening hours. Savings on these habits reduce exactly the variable part of the bill — the part above the 80–120 THB a day reference.
